DoShune Lamar Gills, Sr. was born on December 26, 1971, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois to Barbara Gills and Edgar Love. Affectionately known as Shune, he was raised in Maywood by his mother, Barbara, and stepfather, Robert Michael Spence Sr. Then later taken in and nurtured by Sgt. Welton Pete Taylor in Belzoni, Mississippi. As a young man Doshune married Myrtle Lloyd Camp 2003. Later in maturity Doshune was joined in Holy Matrimony to Felicia Nicole Gibson December 19, 2009. Together they took on a blended family of 9 children (Shune called them Team Gills) and then they were blessed with Carl Michael Gills, born May 2012.
Shune attended Lexington Elementary in Maywood and later transferred to Melrose Park Elementary School where he graduated from 8th grade. Shune attended Proviso East High School where he was a proud Pirate. Until he could no longer physically attend, Shune could be seen at the high school basketball games and Proviso West Christmas Tournaments annually. Shune played basketball and football as a teen.
Shune had a strong work ethic as a young teen. He started out busing tables at Mr. Clarence’s restaurant on 19th and St. Charles in Maywood as early as 14 years old. He later worked at several Jiffy Lube locations, Amazon, and Kraft. In recent years Doshune assisted his wife Felicia managing LifeStream Transportation Inc, Divine Service Group LLC, & Josiah's House & Esters Throne, NFP. Doshune Gills was very proud to be a Lead Peacekeeper for the Organization - Black Man United in the Proviso area and often would choose to join the brothers as they traveled to other places outside the local community.
As a boy Shune and his family attended Proviso Baptist Church in Maywood and as a teen he was a member of Care Christian Center in Maywood where he first met his wife Felicia & her family. Doshune played the drums in the church, he loved the word of God and Worship. Along with his wife, Shune often attended Zion Covenant Church International in Aurora, where he would volunteer in the parking lot, work security, and join in with the Mens Ministry. In November 2021, Doshune recommitted his life to the Lord at Proviso Baptist Church in the office talking and praying with the late Bishop Claude Porter. After COVID Doshune would faithfully watch Pastor John Hannah at 7:30 am regardless of where he was and who he was with. And would visit with his family at Purpose City Church in Aurora periodically.
Shune fought hard in his battle to overcome many things throughout his life and with God as his Guide and Holy Spirit as a compass - he was victorius. This time he told his family if I lose this one, "Its God's Order." On February 11, 2026 Doshune Gills went on to be with the Lord.
In Heaven, Shune will join his mother, Barbara Love; father, Edgar Love; sister, Patsy Love; and his brothers, Demetrius Deering, Anthony Lee, and Robert Michael Spence II.
Shune leaves to cherish his loving memory his loving wife Felicia Nicole Gills; children, Marcus Dante Burrell (Jeh’Rai), Doshune (Alesha) Gills Jr., Aramis aka AJ Gills, Jaquisha Nicole Gills, Ella Andrea Gills, Antoine Larry (Torshia), Jazmine Larry, Kesean Gills, Khalil Gills, and Carl Gills; siblings from mom’s side, Richard Cox, Andrea Gills, Ella (Jerome) Carter, Ollion Spence, & Booker T.
